33 hours without wi-fi!!

We did it!

We had a lot of no-tech fun at Lake Atitlan!
Collegiate students at El Mirador in Lake Atitlan

We returned to Antigua late this afternoon, sad to say good bye to Lake Atitlan and our new "cha'ks" there.
(Cha'ks tzutujil Mayan language for brothers).

Stay tuned!

  1. This Wifi free weekend was fun and safe until we were going to the lake after zip lining. We had to go across some hanging bridges that could only carry 6 people at a time. I thought I was going to be fine but that was NOT the case. Someone started moving the bridge and I immediately felt like Donkey in Shrek where he and Shrek were going across the rope bridge. I literally stopped in the middle of the bridge and did not move until the bridge stopped moving. After this bridge, another surprise awaited me further up the trail. ANOTHER BRIDGE!! On this bridge, I was Donkey yet again and was saying,"We're gonna die, we're gonna die!" After that I had only one question,"Whose idea was it to build these hanging bridges at about 200 meters?"

    3. Sorry Senora but that still seems a little high! 20 meters translates to about 100 ft which is high!:)

  3. The weekend without wifi was an intriguing experience that I would most definitely have todo again. It started off by getting to enjoy a nice two hour leisurely bus ride that was really cool because I had the chance to see all of this beautiful landforms that includes mountains, water falls, etc. Then we got to the hotel which was very fun because it was very homey and very nice that had a lookout on lake antitlan. We got to go out to see the coffee farm and then have dinner there. It wouldn't be a day without us facing some adversity so it started to pour four about 45 minutes. No worries, we played soccer with some kids in the rain.

The next day we got to on the zip Lines that were about 200 feet above the ground which seemed like 200000 feet. It was a great weekend

  4. 33 hours without wifi! How did we do that?! In the states we are almost always connected to wifi, and if you aren't connected to wifi you have 3G. This wifi less weekend was awesome! The weekend make you realize how much more there is besides twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. Since we put down our phones on Saturday, we were able to see the awesomes views from zip lining, which were amazing! Even though I'm not into the whole height thing, my nerves were pushed aside after the first leap of faith with the zip line. I can't wait for next Friday to come when we go climb a volcano.

  5. Wow, that is a beautiful view of the lake. I'm glad you were all able to experience it "unplugged".
Max, I hope you are appreciating these couple of weeks completely off the grid!
Can't wait to hear all the details about your trip.

  6. The change of scenery at the lake this weekend was a really nice change of pace. It was cool to see what some more of Guatemala was made of, including different town on the two-hour bus ride, some new restaurants, and a new slew of markets. But it was even more exciting to be living on a lake for the night! After exploring the town for a little and eating lunch, we took a boat over to the place where we would spend the night. We had a gorgeous view of the volcanoes overlooking the lake from our window. That night we went to the coffee factory where we tried some of the best coffee I've ever tasted, and then ate dinner at the factory. The next day we went zip-lining which was really fun,and we got to go swimming in the lake there as well. It was awesome to see more of Guatemala!

  7. The lake was so much fun this weekend! It was filled with action and alot of walking around and enjoying nature at its best. The zip lines were probably my favorite part of the trip because the view from them was spectacular. After that we went straight to the lake to go swimming where there were already people swimming. We continually jumped off the tire swing and the lake felt amazing. I also bought alot of things in the village! It was definetely a great experience.

  8. Thirty three hours without wi-fi was not a problem at all. He were all having such a great time! The lake was so beautiful and the boat ride over to the hotel was so nice. It was really cool seeing many different towns from the boat and seeing how gigantic the mountains are compared to the houses. Zip lining was defintaly my favorite part of the trip. I have gone zip lining before and it was just as much fun. The view of the water and volcanos was the best part. We then went and swam in the big lake which was great. The water was nice and cool and it was fun jumping off of a tire swing into the lake. It was a great weekend!

  9. The lake was a great time. I had a great time on the boat ride over after eating a bunch of food 5 minutes over. The hotel was nice and I don't think I've ever been happier to have hot water. The ziplines were extremely fun and I had a great view of the city and lake while flying over it. Then there was the lake which was also fun because of the rope swing and trees even though Senora Sharlin said I couldn't climb on the trees because it was "dangerous". I did it anyways. pretty good weekend.
