"This is so cool, so awesome, señora! Can we stay longer?" - Collegiate students
Today's adventure took us an hour outside of Antigua to begin our trek on foot up the active volcano Pacaya. Equipped with our walking sticks, the 2 senoras made the rather steep, and at times slippery ascent with the rest of crew up ahead with the guides. Glimpses of the volcano's crater would appear as clouds drifted by and through us. Nothing can compare.
Oh my god! The volcano hike was awesomes! We were in a freaking cloud, that is how high we were! The views were super cool and the trek was not as bad as everyone thought it was going to be. It's a shame we come home tomorrow, but what a great way to end this trip!
ReplyDeleteThe hike was amazing today! I have a ton of pictures of the hike, although it was only visible for 100 feet before the view is shielded by the clouds. I can't imagine an experience crazier than standing on what was lava and roasting marshmallows in heat vents.
ReplyDeleteClimbing the volcano was a lot of work. I was very tired when we eventually reached up to the top. Everything looked so cool from the top of the volcano. It was difficult to see down the mountain because we were above the clouds. It almost looked like we were on the moon because there was little vegetation and a lot of big rocks and crators. I'm glad i got the exercise walking up the volcano. It was a great experience!
ReplyDeleteClimbing the volcano was so much fun,but it took a ton of work to do it! Once we got to the top of the mountain, I realized it was well worth the climb because the view was amazing! I compared the top of the volcano to a similar comparison to the moon! There big rocks everywhere and lots of room to run around! It had wavy hills of rocks to run and climb on. My favorite part was when we started to roast the marshmellows from the little hot spots on the volcano. It actually worked really well! That hike was probabaly my favorite part of the trip!
ReplyDeleteClimbing my first volcano took a lot of work and energy but in the end, I still made it to the top. Since we could not go all the way to the top because the volcano was active, we stopped near the top to have lunch and to try and roast marshmallows by using the nearby vents that produced heat. I was unsuccessful with roasting my marshmallows and instead, I ended up melting them a little where they almost fell off of my stick. When we were all finished with our lunch, taking pictures, and playing around, we headed down the volcano. Initially, I was going to walk down but I noticed some of the other guys running down the volcano with one of our guides and I thought it would be a lot of fun so I joined them. The path was really twisty and I was constantly thinking I was going to fall face first and if it happened, I just knew I was going to fall in horse poop. However, nothing bad happened and I reached the bottom in one piece but my feet did feel like I was walking on hot coals.
