Antigua Guatemala - 2 de junio

Strolling around Antigua -- 2 de Junio:

Visiting and shopping at the market:
Fresh vegetable stand

Arts and handcrafted items

Fresh fruit stand serving coconuts, pears, rambutanes, etc.

Not many places can you buy "rambutanes" (spiky fruit with a sweet, jelly-like center) and machetes in a marketplace!

Eating at a local Guatemalan restaurant: "La Fonda de la Calle Real":

Sitting in a famous seat!

Grilled onions with spices

Guacamole to go with the tortillas (basket to the upper right) and the onions
Señora Sharlin's nephew playing the Marimba (classic instrument of Guatemala)

"Pepian de Pollo" (Chicken, green beans, and potatoes in a sauce with many spices)

A late lunch, around 3.00, but delicious nonetheless!

Visiting one of the first cathedral in Central America:

A view of the inside

Up-close view of the altar

Later on, we attended a mass in the church -- very different from the US! The tempo of the music is much more up-beat and lively. Listening to the service in Spanish was also very interesting.

¡Hasta mañana!

Kyle
