Strolling around Antigua -- 2 de Junio:
Visiting and shopping at the market:
Fresh vegetable stand |
Arts and handcrafted items |
Fresh fruit stand serving coconuts, pears, rambutanes, etc. |
Not many places can you buy "rambutanes" (spiky fruit with a sweet, jelly-like center) and machetes in a marketplace!
Eating at a local Guatemalan restaurant: "La Fonda de la Calle Real":
Sitting in a famous seat! |
Grilled onions with spices |
Guacamole to go with the tortillas (basket to the upper right) and the onions |
Señora
Sharlin's nephew playing the Marimba (classic instrument of Guatemala)
"Pepian de Pollo" (Chicken, green beans, and potatoes in a sauce with many spices) |
A late lunch, around 3.00, but delicious nonetheless!
Visiting one of the first cathedral in Central America:
A view of the inside |
Up-close view of the altar |
Later on, we attended a mass in the church -- very different from the US! The tempo of the music is much more up-beat and lively. Listening to the service in Spanish was also very interesting.
¡Hasta mañana!
Kyle
